Quick verdict
Choose Wanderlog if you want to see your plan on a map, optimise routes, track a budget and split costs, import bookings from your email, use native phone apps or offline access, or have your whole group edit the plan together. Today it simply does more than RoamerPlanner.
Choose RoamerPlanner if one person in your group does the planning and everyone else mainly needs to follow along: a clean, colour-coded day-by-day timeline, detailed flight and hotel cards, tickets attached to the right activity and personal checklists — all free, with no paid tier.

Planning experience: map-first vs timeline-first
Wanderlog puts your itinerary next to a map, so you can see where each place is and how far apart they are, and Pro can reorder stops into an efficient route. That's a real advantage for road trips and dense city days, and RoamerPlanner has nothing equivalent today.
RoamerPlanner is built around a vertical timeline. Each day reads top to bottom — flight, hotel check-in, a temple at 9 a.m., a street-food dinner — with colour-coded cards for flights, accommodation, car rentals, attractions, restaurants, shopping, notes and checklists. You drag cards to a new time or a different day, and you can plan with undated days (Day 1, Day 2…) before your dates are fixed.
Group planning
This is where the difference matters most. Wanderlog lets trip mates collaborate on the same plan in real time, free. In RoamerPlanner, the trip owner builds and edits the itinerary; friends who join through the invite link can see every plan, attachment and detail, and tick off their own items on shared checklists, but they can't change the plan.
If your group wants everyone adding ideas, Wanderlog is the better fit. If you're the planner and the others just need a clear, always-current itinerary on their phones, RoamerPlanner keeps things simple — nobody accidentally moves the dinner booking.
Price
Wanderlog's free plan is generous: its help centre says it won't limit the number of trips or the number of people you plan with. Pro adds power-user features such as offline access, route optimisation, Gmail scanning, Google Maps export, unlimited attachments and unlimited AI assistance. When we checked, the Pro page listed Pro Annual from $39.99/year; in-app prices can differ by app store and country.
RoamerPlanner is free, with no paid tier — but also without the extra features above.

Frequently asked questions
- Is RoamerPlanner a free alternative to Wanderlog?
- For the core job of building a day-by-day itinerary with bookings, attachments and checklists, yes. It doesn't replace Wanderlog's map view, route optimisation, budgeting, booking import, offline access or AI features.
- Which is better for group trips?
- If everyone in the group wants to edit the plan, Wanderlog. If one person plans and everyone else follows along, RoamerPlanner's view-only invite link and personal checklists work well — see our group trip planner page.
- Can I move my Wanderlog trip into RoamerPlanner?
- There's no import, so you would re-create the plan by hand. For a trip that's already well under way in Wanderlog, it's usually easiest to stay there.
