Seoul Cherry Blossom 2027: Where to Go and When

October 27, 2026

Cherry trees during the Yeouido spring flower festival in Seoul

Seoul cherry blossom 2027 does not have an official date yet. The Korea Meteorological Administration records flowering on a standard tree and on a small group at Yeouido. It publishes those observations when the flowers open. It had not published a 2027 forecast on the materials checked for this article. Private sites that already name a day in March or April 2027 are not a government forecast. Plan with the long-term normals, then replace them when the 2027 season is actually announced.

What "in bloom" means in Seoul

KMA's standard for flowering is specific. On the Seoul standard tree, bloom is recorded when three flowers are fully open on one branch. The tree stands at the National Meteorological Museum, 52 Songwol-gil, Jongno-gu. Seoul flowering has been observed since 1922. That museum tree is an instrument. It is not the festival.

The city's famous group is separate. Since 2000, KMA has also watched three trees on Yeouido's Yunjung-ro, management numbers 118 to 120, together with Yeongdeungpo District. On 29 March 2026 the Metropolitan Meteorological Administration said both the Seoul tree and the Yeouido group had reached bloom that day. For the Seoul tree that was six days earlier than 2025 (4 April) and ten days earlier than the normal (8 April). For Yeouido it was five days earlier than 2025 (3 April) and eight days earlier than the normal (6 April).

Yeongdeungpo's own table lists Yeouido full bloom in 2026 as 3 April, against a 29 March bloom. Full bloom is a later mark than first bloom. A trip that arrives on the headline bloom day can be early for the canopy people came to see, by several days. The 2026 gap was five days at Yeouido. Other years in the district table are similar, not identical. Do not turn "about a week later" into a rule with a fixed number.

The lesson from 2026 is the size of the miss against the normal: ten days at the standard tree. A plan that can move by a week survives that. A plan that can only be in Seoul on 8 April 2027 does not, until a real forecast and then a real observation say otherwise.

Seoul cherry blossom 2027: where the trees are

Yeouido

Yeongdeungpo describes the spring flower festival as a Hangang setting with 1,886 cherry trees, plus other spring shrubs. The festival itself, in 2026, ran from 3 to 7 April. Traffic control on the festival approach ran from 12:00 on 1 April to 14:00 on 8 April, on Yeouiseo-ro and the related Hangang edges the district listed. The district named the sites as the cherry road on Yeouiseo-ro, the Hangang bank, and the National Assembly management football ground and car park. Seoul's festival listing for the same 2026 event gave stage hours of 11:30 to 21:30. Those hours were for the program, not a promise that every tree peaked for all five days.

The 2027 festival dates, traffic bans and stage hours are not officially confirmed. What you can use now is the geography, with the names kept separate. KMA's three watched trees are on Yunjung-ro, between National Assembly gates 6 and 7, which is the spot the district's blossom-history page describes. The 2026 festival page listed a different label for the event ground: the cherry road on Yeouiseo-ro, the Hangang bank, and the National Assembly management ground and car park. Those sites are all on the west side of Yeouido. They are not a licence to treat every English "Yunjung-ro" pin as the roadway that will close. When a ban is in force, arrive by subway and follow the map the district posts. Yeouido Station (lines 5 and 9) and Yeouinaru Station (line 5) are the practical rail ends. Check which exit that map recommends.

Go in the morning if you want the road as a walk. By afternoon in a festival year the path is a crowd with a program, which is a fair thing to want and a poor thing to stumble into if you needed a quiet hour. The National Assembly buildings are not a tourist stop you can wander through. Stay on the public road and the park.

Seokchon Lake

Seokchon Lake, in Songpa, is the other site worth a day. The water is split into an east lake and a west lake, with paths under the trees and Lotte World Tower in the skyline. It is not the same crowd system as Yeouido. There is no single road closure that defines it. Lighting around the lake has been part of past springs. A 2027 lighting schedule is not officially confirmed. Go for the trees in daylight, and treat night lights as a bonus you confirm that week.

Seokchon Station (line 8) and Jamsil Station (lines 2 and 8) are the rail ends. Crossing the city from Yeouido to Jamsil is a subway ride, not a stroll, so these are two days or two halves with a meal in between, not one loop.

Other places, including stream paths in several districts, also have trees. They are local walks. They are not a substitute for checking Yeouido if Yeouido is the picture you came for, and they do not need a festival to function. If the 2027 festival dates land on your only weekend and you dislike that density, Seokchon on a morning, plus an ordinary palace day from the 3 days in Seoul itinerary, is the calmer shape.

A two-day plan you can slide

Pick the two days closest to the Yeouido full-bloom window once it exists. Until then, hold a refundable block that covers the last days of March and the first ten days of April. That span includes the normal (bloom around 6 to 8 April) and a 2026-style early year (bloom in the last days of March). It will not cover a very late year like the older April records, which is why you keep the refund.

Where you sleep is a transfer choice. Where to stay in Seoul compares Myeongdong, Hongdae, Insadong and Gangnam. For this pair of parks, a base near a line that reaches both Yeouido and Jamsil without a long bus is the relevant test. Gangnam and Jamsil make Seokchon easy and Yeouido a ride. Yeouido itself makes Day 1 easy and Day 2 a ride. Either is coherent. A base that makes both a project is the one to avoid.

Put the two days into RoamerPlanner as movable, and keep the palace or market day as the one that does not care about flowers. Winter packing is a different problem, covered in Seoul in winter. Early April is not that season. You still want a layer you can take off at noon, because the morning by the river is colder than the afternoon on the pavement. No 2027 temperature forecast belongs in this article.

Day 1: Yeouido on foot

Morning at the Yunjung-ro trees, before the day's program if a festival is on. Walk that stretch once. Afternoon in Yeouido Hangang Park, which gives you the river without standing in a stage crowd. Evening only if you still want the festival atmosphere and the 2027 hours say it is open. If a traffic ban is posted, do not plan a taxi to a pin inside the closed zone. Walk in from the station the district names.

If there is no festival in 2027, the trees are still there. The day gets simpler: morning on the road, afternoon in the park, evening anywhere you are sleeping.

Day 2: Both sides of Seokchon Lake

Morning at the east lake, while the path is a walk. Afternoon at the west lake. Evening around Jamsil if you want food and a station home. Lotte World is a paid indoor backup if the weather turns, not a required stop, and it needs its own ticket check that week. Do not add a palace on the same afternoon. Palace hours and the regular closed day should be read on the royal palaces site for the exact date, because holiday exceptions happen. Use a third day for Gyeongbokgung if you have one. The Seoul and Tokyo comparison is about choosing a first city, not about this week. If you are doing both cities in one spring, give Seoul the days that match its later normal. Tokyo's normal full bloom is the end of March. Seoul's normal first bloom is 8 April. They are not the same week. Forcing them into one weekend is how people see bare branches in one of the two.

What not to lock in autumn 2026

  • A festival ticket. The 2026 event was a free public festival with sponsors and a stage, not a gated show you had to buy a year ahead. Do not pay a reseller for "2027 Yeouido entry" unless the district itself is selling something, which it had not announced at this check.
  • A hotel you cannot cancel, on a single Saturday, chosen because it matched the normal. The 2026 bloom was ten days off that normal at the standard tree.
  • A photo session that only works if both lakes and Yeouido are at full bloom on the same afternoon. The district's 2026 gap between Yeouido bloom and full bloom was real. Seokchon does not have to match it.

Watch, in order: KMA's spring-flower status page once the season starts (it shows observation, not a long-range promise), then the Yeongdeungpo tourism page for any 2027 festival and traffic notice, then the lake lighting if Songpa or the city posts one. Until those exist, the normals and the two-day geography are the whole plan.

Short answers

When is Seoul cherry blossom 2027? Not officially confirmed. The normal for the standard tree is 8 April. The normal for the Yeouido group is 6 April. In 2026 both flowered on 29 March.

Where should you go if you only have one site? Yeouido, in the morning, if the canopy is what you want. Seokchon if you would rather walk a lake than a festival road.

Did KMA forecast 2027? No 2027 flowering date was in the KMA material checked on 24 October 2026. The agency's job in the 2026 release was to announce that bloom had happened.

Will the road close again? The 2026 closure was 1 April at 12:00 through 8 April at 14:00. The 2027 closure is not officially confirmed. Check Yeongdeungpo before you tell a driver to drop you on Yeouiseo-ro.
