Bangkok New Years Eve 2026: Where to Watch the Fireworks
October 24, 2026

Bangkok new years eve has no single fireworks show. There is a riverside display at ICONSIAM, a city-centre countdown at CentralWorld, and smaller approved displays across the capital. For 31 December 2026 (countdown to 2027), the largest organisers have posted save-the-date notices, but line-ups, exact show times and BMA road closures were still incomplete as of 20 October 2026. What follows separates what is confirmed from last year's pattern, so you can pick a viewing area without chasing rumours.
Bangkok new years eve: how the night is organised
There is no single official "city fireworks" that replaces the mall and riverside events. Each major display needs Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) permission. On 31 December 2025 the BMA published a list of about 20 approved sites, from ICONSIAM and CentralWorld to Asiatique, One Bangkok and several riverside hotels. Expect a similar spread for 31 December 2026 once the annual list appears, usually in late December.
Crowds are large. Arrive early, travel light and plan how you will leave after midnight. BTS and MRT hours are often extended on New Year's Eve; confirm on the operator apps closer to the date.
For daytime sightseeing before the party, use the 3 days in Bangkok itinerary. December weather context for the wider country is in Thailand in December.
ICONSIAM: riverside fireworks
ICONSIAM's Amazing Thailand Countdown is the big Chao Phraya show. For the countdown to 2026 it ran 27-31 December 2025 at River Park, with a long eco-friendly fireworks, drone and pyrotechnic display over the river on the main night. Organisers reported very large multi-day attendance.

For 31 December 2026, secondary reports in mid-October 2026 said ICONSIAM had announced Amazing Thailand Countdown 2027 for 27-31 December 2026. Treat artist line-ups, exact midnight choreography and dining packages as not fully published until ICONSIAM's own event page updates. Free public access to the River Park zones has been the pattern; paid restaurant packages sell separately and sell out.
Where to watch without a package
- River Park and the mall terraces if open to the public that night.
- Opposite bank viewpoints and piers (expect standing room only).
- Public boats stop early or change routes when the area is crowded; do not count on a last-minute ferry.
CentralWorld: Ratchaprasong countdown
CentralWorld's countdown fills the plaza and surrounding roads at Ratchaprasong. For the night into 2026, authorities closed several roads for many hours (Ratchadamri from midday in one segment; Rama I, Phloen Chit and nearby roads from late afternoon). The show mixed concerts, drones and "cityscape" fireworks.

In October 2026, Thai and regional coverage reported that Central Pattana had announced centralwOrld Bangkok Countdown 2027 for 31 December 2026, with fireworks and drones promised and the artist list still to come. Road closures for 2026 will follow a Royal Gazette / traffic order closer to the date; use last year's map only as a sketch.
Getting there: BTS Chit Lom or Siam. Do not drive. Bring water and a small snack; leaving the densest zone for food after 22:00 is slow.
Other places people watch
Until BMA publishes the 2026 approval list, treat these as likely repeats, not guarantees:
- One Bangkok park countdown (first ran for 2026).
- Asiatique The Riverfront fireworks (riverside, south of the centre).
- Sukhumvit / EmQuartier-Emporium corridor events under district countdown brands.
- Hotel rooftops and dinner cruises (paid; book only with a clear cancellation policy).
Rooftop bars can see more than one distant burst. They also enforce dress codes and minimum spend on New Year's Eve. Read the date on the booking page carefully.
Practical plan for 31 December
This is a single-night plan, not a multi-day itinerary. Pick one primary venue.
Option A: River focus (ICONSIAM)
- Afternoon: rest, late lunch away from Khlong San.
- Early evening: enter River Park zones before the heaviest surge.
- Midnight: watch from your chosen spot; stay put until the first crowd wave passes.
- After: walk to a BTS or taxi point that is outside the tightest closure if possible.
Option B: City-centre focus (CentralWorld)
- Afternoon: hotel rest; leave bags behind.
- From 16:00-18:00: take BTS into Siam/Chit Lom before road closures choke the area.
- Evening: hold a meeting point with your group; phone signal can be weak.
- After midnight: follow police exit flows; do not fight toward the plaza centre.
Option C: Quieter riverside
- Choose Asiatique or a hotel with a stated fireworks view only after that venue confirms 2026 plans.
- Combine with an early dinner so you are seated before gates tighten.
You can store Option A or B as an evening block in RoamerPlanner next to your daytime temple and market plans.
Daytime before the countdown
Sleep late if you can. Heavy temples and floating markets on the same day as midnight fireworks leave people exhausted and short-tempered in crowds. A light museum, mall air-conditioning and an early dinner are enough. Keep valuables in the hotel safe; carry a small cross-body bag only.
If your trip continues into January, book 1 January transport in advance. Domestic flights and buses fill with people leaving the capital after the party. Same-day tickets on the morning of 1 January are a poor bet for popular routes north or to the islands.
Safety and comfort
- Wear closed shoes; standing for hours on concrete is normal.
- Agree on a backup meeting point if someone loses the group.
- Keep cash and a charged phone; mobile data slows in dense crowds.
- Pet owners: fireworks stress animals; BMA messaging in past years asked residents to keep pets indoors.
- Drink water; humidity stays high even when the clock says winter.
- Follow police barriers; climbing onto unsafe ledges for a photo is not worth it.
What is still not official
As of 20 October 2026:
- Full artist line-ups for ICONSIAM and CentralWorld 2027 countdowns: not published.
- Exact firework start times and duration: not published.
- BMA list of approved 31 December 2026 sites: not published (2025 list is the last complete public list).
- One Bangkok and Asiatique 2026 programmes: not officially confirmed in the sources checked.
Re-check ICONSIAM, CentralWorld, TAT News and BMA notices in late November and again in mid-December.
Short FAQ
Is Bangkok new years eve free to attend at the plazas? The main public plazas have been free to enter. Food, drinks, rooftops and cruises are not.
Can I see fireworks from a regular hotel room? Only if the hotel faces the display and markets that view. Most city hotels do not.
Is the river or Ratchaprasong better? River for the large water show; Ratchaprasong for concert energy and skyline fireworks. Pick based on crowd tolerance, not on social media thumbnails.
