What a good itinerary template includes

• Trip basics: destination, dates (or number of days) and who's travelling.
• Transport: flight numbers, departure and arrival airports and times, terminal, seat and booking reference; trains and car rentals.
• Where you're sleeping: hotel name, check-in and check-out times, room type, confirmation number and the address in the local language.
• Day-by-day plan: morning, afternoon and evening blocks with the sights, restaurants and activities you've chosen.
• Practical notes: dress codes, opening-hours reminders, the dish you must order.
• Checklists: packing, documents, SIM cards, visas and things to buy.

Spreadsheet vs. itinerary app: pros and cons

Spreadsheets and documents are flexible, free and familiar, and they're great for budgets. But they're hard to read on a phone, attachments end up in a separate folder, and when several people edit the same sheet it quickly gets messy.
